Report Sat 30th Sept 06

Post by Brad » Sun Oct 01, 2006 5:35 am

I have been away fishing the waters between Brisbane and Rockhampton over the last week therefore I don’t have a lot of reports from our local waters.

There has been a few cobia caught in the top end of the bay, especially by anglers live-baiting the beacons and other structured areas such as the Curtain Artificial and the Bulwer Ledge.

A few school mackerel have been taken around the beacons on jigged chrome slugs and adjacent the bay islands on drifted pillies.

The Scarborough Reef system has produced some quality bream and plenty of snapper to 5.2kg for anglers fishing soft plastics. Night-time efforts with fresh baits are also likely to produce these better quality specimens.

Crabs have been on the increase with anglers setting pots around the bay islands and prominent ledges doing fairly well, especially at night.

In the creeks the mud crabs have also been good with pots set around the deeper holes at the mouths of the creeks producing a few good bucks. Obviously the harder to access areas are producing the better quality crabs.

A few longtail tuna have been working the channel along the edge of Peel, mainly on the rising tide.

A few schools of frigates and mack tuna have been sighted around Combyuro, the Pearl Channel and along the front of Bribie Island.

In the estuaries, the fishing has been fairly good with plenty of flathead and whiting and good numbers of other species.

The whiting have been fairly plentiful in the Pumicestone Passage with the Avon Wreck being one spot close to the ramp at Spinnaker Sound that has been producing reasonable numbers.

Some good bream and trevally have been caught around the mouth of the Bribie canal, especially at night on live or fresh prawns.

May your bait be nervous.
