Weekly Report 15 Aug 12 Biribie Island

A bit quiet from around here as most areas a getting over the big rains we have had over the past few months. However there are plenty of good quality winter whiting around the Cockle Banks, the Red Buoy and from the mouth of the Pearl Channel. There are also a few summer whiting among them. The summer whiting run is still a few weeks of but they should be good this year but you have to beat the netters to them. There are a few bream around and are coming from the Jetty, tiger Rocks, from under the bridge and from the canals. They are also coming from the oyster leases in Ningi Creek and from the creek mouths. There are still the odd good mulloway around and the best area for one is under the Bridge and from Buckley’s Hole. There has been the odd snapper taken from Whitepatch as well as some decent flathead from there. All the sand flats are yielding a few flathead as well as opposite Cornets. There are good numbers of blackfish around and are best from the Jetty from Tiger rocks and from any of the piles in the area. The offshore fishing has been Ok without being fantastic. There are some nice snapper around but locations are not very forthcoming. However the Cape reefs are producing a few nice ones and also a good variety of reef fish. Try around Tangalooma for the odd big longtail tuna, also the Shipping Channel Beacons for a few school mackerel.
