Weekly Report 22 Aug 12 - Bribie Island

There are good numbers of quality winter whiting around the Cockle Banks, the mouth of the Pearl Channel and from the Red Buoy in Deception Bay. There are also a few summer whiting about with them but it will be a couple of weeks before the big run of summer whiting get going. There are good numbers of Luderick (black fish) around at present and are best from the piles under the jetty, from Sandstone Point rocks from the Bridge pylons and from any structure that holds a bit of weed. There are a few bream around but are a bit on the small side at present.

Tiger Rocks, the Canals, from the jetty and from under the Bridge are spots to get a few bream. There are good flathead around here at the moment and around Red Beach, Buckley’s Hole, the Jetty, from Opposite Cornets, from under the bridge and from Sandstone Point as well as from the canals. There have been the odd mulloway caught from the bridge and Buckley’s Hole at night. There have been a few mac tuna being taken from the front beaches. The offshore fishing has been a bit quiet but a few snapper are around and the odd good cobia coming from the Shipping Channel beacons. The reef fish are not bad and a good feed to be had from the Cape reefs. Just the odd sand crab around the passage and they should be better over the next month or so.
