The summers whiting have arrived if fair numbers but are not in top gear as yet. They are coming from Skirmish Point, Woody Bay, from opposite Koolamara, Red Beach, from Buckley’s Hole and opposite Cornets on the sand flats there. The winter whiting are also on the go over around Morton with some very good quality fish there. They are also coming from the Cockle banks and from the red buoy area in Deception Bay. There have been some long tail tuna patrolling the passage lately and these are great fun if you can hook up on one. The flathead are going pretty well and are best with the whiting around Red Beach, Buckley’s Hole, opposite Cornets, Whitepatch, from the Bribie Bridge and from Sandstone Point. Try for the odd decent snapper from the Ripples. Only a few small bream are around at present. There are some decent sand crabs from below the bridge and also the odd good mud crab coming from the creek mouths as well as Ningi Creek. There has been the odd jack coming from the canals but will be better when things warm up a bit more. The spotted mackerel seem to be starting to appear around the Shipping Channel Beacons, along with some yellow tail king. There are a few snapper around Tangalooma. They are also around the Cape Reefs.
