OFFSHORE
We can only wish ….. When the weather comes good there are good catches reported but these are few and far between at present. Wait for the good weather and reap the rewards. On the last lot of good days there was a feast for all who ventured out trout, emperor, mackerel, cobia on the wrecks, red jew on the fern country and even some Job fish for some lucky anglers who went to Fitzroy Reef and beyond.

AWOONGA DAM
From all reports it is slowly settling down we should start to hear a few reports of fish being caught in the next few weeks so far only 4 fish have been caught on the dam we have heard of.

FITZROY RIVER
In minor flood again but fishable. Barra are being caught on live baits in the town reaches perch are best baits and fished on the bottom with enough lead to keep them there. Still a bit on the dirty side for lures but that won’t stop us trying. We have been catching some good little barra in the lagoons Woolwash and Yeppen are the pick of them. 12 mile also has fish in it but most of the fish are small Poppers 50mm 70mm are the bomb in either spray pops or walk the dog style orange or similar has been the gun colour and if you think colour makes no difference try standing beside someone catching fish after fish on an orange popper while your natural prawn colour goes untouched. Makes you wish you had an orange one I can tell you.

CORIO BAY
Before you venture up there check the condition of the roads with someone who has been there in the last few weeks. Crabs should be good and all the usual suspects – whiting, salmon and flathead have been good on the beaches at 5 Rocks. I would be targeting grunter in the holes at the mouth.

COOROOMAN CREEK
Crabs were good real good in fact and with the added flow now in the river it could be game on again for the crabbing check it out it’s a good easy day at Coorooman.

PORT ALMA
It is the place to be. Barra buy the tonne if you listen to some people and crabs all over the place. Then comes the reports that the crabs have gone and the Barra are slow as who do you believe????????? Go check it out for yourself, one thing I do know you won’t be alone.

CAUSEWAY LAKE
Remember most of the fish are caught while the run through is on. Some good fish have come out of the causeway of late Trevelly, Jack, Grunter have all come from the last set of big tides that ran through so when next it runs give it a go remember no run no fun. The causeway needs a big tide to run into the lake 3.9 or better.

BEDFORD WEIR BLACKWATER (Matthew)
Above the wall the barra are on the chew taking mostly surface lures at dawn and dusk and the hot, still, balmy afternoons. Look for shallow still water or large stands of timber and cast your lures into these areas and sooner or later you will get a heart stopping strike. Shallow slow retrieved lures also work well during the day. Look for shiney silver or gold suspending lures with long pauses and sharp twitches. Toga are also on the prowl taking small surface fly and small surface lures such as the Ecogear px45's and bubble pops. Red claw are also around in massive proportions. Below the wall where the water is running yellowbelly are on offer as well as black bream and eel tail cat fish on bait. Lightly weighted fly sprayed with scent are catching some nice black bream and sleepy cod with the odd yellowbelly coming along. Red claw are also there in big numbers.

COMET RIVER (Matthew)
Comet river is still flowing, but some nice fat yellowbelly are being caught on live bait. A couple of nice barra were also spotted cruising the bank. Red claw are also there in big numbers.
