Weekly Report 8 Feb 14

Post by Brad » Sat Feb 08, 2014 7:59 am

Hello all CQ fishers and welcome to another week of strong winds. What can we expect though as it is the time of year we get the monsoonal flows and the north trade winds sweeping down the coast. I have already had some good photos coming through of quality Barra with the opening of the season again on Saturday. The lagoons are again stocked with smaller size fish. You have to be quick as it is not as big of flow as previous years and the fishing window will be short. I find the best equipment is a 3inch banana prawn colour gulp rigged on a 2/0 jig head with as little weight as possible. Preferably a 1/8 ounce jig head. This setup also works very well in the river. There is a very large number of bony bream sweeping through the salt water side of the river at the moment. If you find a calm eddy I am sure you will catch your limit of 20 in one cast.

There is not too much to report from Yeppoon and Emu Park as the impressive swell was too much for any sort of fishing. I drove the coast last weekend and with all my might couldn’t find any where to tempt a fish. I am going to go for an adventure down to Yeppoon sweeping through to Emu Park this weekend and will hopefully have some reports flowing in for next week. For now here are a couple of photos starting showing the impressive surge that occurred last week end.
If you would like some photos posted send them through to sustainblefishing@hotmail.com listed with where you caught them and any details you wish to add. Until next time happy fishing.
