Weekly Report 23 May 14

Post by Brad » Fri May 23, 2014 12:41 pm

Hello all CQ fishers. What an uncomfortable weekend of fishing we had last weekend. However this weekend we get a lovely break. The topics worth mentioning are the crabs still full and abundant at Port Alma. Most people in the right spots are averaging 2 to 3 keepers a pot. Not bad considering you would pay over $50 a crab at the shops. Coorooman is the hot spot at the moment, with plenty of salmon and flathead turning it on. I was really surprised with how dirty the water was last weekend with the amount of fish being caught there on lures. This weekend will be perfect with the tides being nice and early and wind at bay.

There will be plenty of people heading out to get amongst the mackerel. They are nice and thick at the moment with the schools starting to show at Cortes Rock off Keppel Sands and Findlays off Bangalee. I love to troll pillies on gangs, this just gets them moving when they are a bit finicky. If you can get out the front of Coorooman or Corio bay early Sunday I am sure you will have a ball with blueys. Believe it or not they love half pilies on a set of 2 gang hooks. The hole between double heads and Iron pot is firing for big grunter at the moment. Remember the bigger the green prawn the bigger the fish. These fish are hungry eaters. I look forward to this weekend as most and good luck out there. If you would like some photos posted send them through to fishingcq@hotmail.com until next time happy fishing.

The tight Lines fishing classic is held in Yeppoon annually and is currently doing early bird entries. Get your entries in online or at a participating venues and help support the local coastguard. The completion is held on the 29th 30th and 31st of August this year and is an excellent weekend for the family. You don’t even have to fish to win, as a huge majority of prizes are given away by lucky draws including the major first prize of a new car and second price a boat package.
