Weekly Report 31 May 14

Post by Brad » Sat May 31, 2014 7:22 pm

Hello all CQ fishers. This weekend weather wise is going to be patchy. Sunday is going to see the better of the 2 days with a 10knots or below wind strength. Last weekend saw a variety fish come in from both out wide and the estuary. King salmon are thick in numbers through the middle reaches of the river with good size fish frequenting. These fish love a lot of run, so if you can anchor in the mouth of a creek and fish the eddies both in and out of the tide. Flicking vibes are the best lures wise but if you want to fish bait, live or extremely fresh is the best.

Prawns are starting to show down the bottom of the river again while the fresh is slowly disbursing from the last flow. If you can get manage to get some prawns keep them live, hook through the tail and flick them unweighted into the current. Crabs are still present and full with massive numbers being taken from all the local spots. The cut through is starting to see them arrive back in numbers and will be worth a go this weekend if the wind doesn’t drop out enough for an out wide Saturday. There have been unconfirmed reports of large schools of Mackerel showing in the close spots. The week of good weather has seen the water clean up so this weekend will be a good chance to get amongst them.

The spots I have had reports of large schools are Farnborough bommie, Findlays and Conical. Get out there as early and dark as possible and slowly troll some pilies around till you find them. Once you do kill the motor as they spook very easily. There is some good bream and flathead being taken at Coorooman on the last of the out tide. I caught some really good quality fish out the front last weekend. There was a SES training exercise with 15 boats up and down the creek, and even with the boat movement the fish were still hungry. Coorooman will be my tip this weekend and this is where I will be. Good luck all and have a good weekend.
If you would like some photos posted send them through to fishingcq@hotmail.com until next time happy fishing.

The tight Lines fishing classic is held in Yeppoon annually and has started the early bird entries. Get your entries in online or at a participating venues and help support the local coastguard. The completion is held on the 29th 30th and 31st of August this year and is an excellent weekend for the family. You don’t even have to fish to win, as a huge majority of prizes are given away by lucky draws including the major first prize of a new car and second price a boat package.
