Weekly Report 31 May 11

The river systems in the Southern Downs area are certainly worth the drive. At present, they are out performing the local dams (with the exception of Glenlyon). The Condamine River meanders its way through the town of Warwick. There is plenty of spots along the river worth a try, particularly around the weir in Queens Park or over near the old Pauls Dairy Factory. Three (3) metre Green and Black bibbed lures or 3/8 oz Black and Gold spinnerbaits are shoeing the best result. The new Rob Garden’s Warlock is definitely worth a try, it comes in a few different sizes. The rivers to the south west of Warwick are improving with some quality Cod being landed. Spinnerbaits seem to be the lure to tie on first. Green & Black or Red & Black are the stand out colours at the moment.

Some anglers are reporting up to 15 Cod in one session. The two local dams, Leslie and Connelly have been a little slow. Most fish are in 3 to 5 metres of water. The old faithful Jackall TN60 is bagging the most fish. Frozen prawns, shrimps and worms are also working. The two Bass dams, Moogerah and Maroon, should be high on the list as good numbers of fish are being landed on various lures. Jackall TN50, Tiemco Spinnerbaits or Chubby’s are working well. The timber at Moogerah and surrounding areas are where you should find the fish. At a recent ABT Bass Electric competition at Maroon, fish were landed all around the dam. Maroon has some lovely healthy weed patches. If you are in the local area, make sure you call in to Warwick Outdoors and Sports and say g’day to John and Wayne - for expert advice on all your fishing (from kids combo to tournament rigs), boating, hunting and camping requirements.
