Weekly Report 15 Jun 11

With the cold weather in full swing, most of the local dams are fishing a little slow. There are still a few good fish being landed but you will have to work for them. Small Lipless Crankbaits are accounting for most fish in Leslie Dam, trolling in 3 to 4 metres of water on the western side of the wall. It is crucial not to go too fast. With the water temperature on the decline, the fish aren’t as active. The land based anglers are having some good results using frozen prawns or shrimps. The most popular spot at present seems to be the area in front of the washpool.

Connelly Dam is certainly worth a look. There has been quality Golden Perch landed over the past couple of weeks. 3/8 Purple, Black and Green Spinnerbaits are the standout lures at the moment. Out two local Bass Dams, Moogerah and Maroon are a bit hit and miss. Most fish are being landed in the timber at Moogerah. However, the gorge is also worth a try. Small Blades and 50mm Jackalls are showing the best results. If fishing Maroon, try up the creek. Some quality Bass have been caught here on Spinnerbaits.

Our river systems, particularly south of Warwick, are the standout fishing spots at the moment. After some good frosts there are plenty of quality Cod on the move. Most anglers are reporting up to 10 being landed in one morning session. Most are falling to 5/8 Spinnerbaits or hard body lures like Oargee Plows. Not all fish have been of legal size so don’t forget you size and bag limits. If you are in the local area, make sure you call in to Warwick Outdoors and Sports and say g’day to John and Wayne - for expert advice on all your fishing (from kids combo to tournament rigs), boating, hunting and camping requirements.
