Weeky Report 22 jul 11

With winter in full swing on the Southern Downs, there are still some quality fish being caught in both local dams as well as the river systems. Anglers at Leslie and Connelly are bagging a few Golden Perch on worms. The lure anglers will have to work hard as winter can be a tough time. Don’t be afraid to mix up your lures in order to entice a bite. The local river systems are the standout at present, with some quality fish being landed on a variety of methods. Live worms and shrimps are working well, bagging some good Yellows. There are also some good Cod on the move. 5/8 Spinnerbaits in the darker colours are working the best. Don’t be afraid to try some surface lures as they are also producing some solid hook-ups. They are available in a variety of styles, from life-like frogs to soft shell cicadas.

The local Bass anglers are having reasonable success at Moogerah, Maroon and Somerset. Most anglers that are making the effort to drive are seeing good results. Fish up to 2kg are being landed on TN Jackalls and gold Blades. Most fish are scattered but a few good schools are located in the deep water. Getting them to bite is the hardest thing. If you are in the local area, make sure you call in to Warwick Outdoors and Sports and say g’day to John and Wayne - for expert advice on all your fishing (from kids combo to tournament rigs), boating, hunting and camping requirements.
