Weekly Report 18 Jan 12

The fishing on the Southern Downs area has been very consistent over the last month with the rivers being the number one spot to try. The town and border rivers are producing some quality fish on both live bait and lures. There have been good numbers of Golden Perch and Murray Cod being landed. Black and red Spinnerbaits as well as the old purple Stumpjumper are the lures to use. The local dams around Warwick have been a little slow at times. The biggest cause of this has been the weather. However, when the conditions are right, the fishing has been good. There are still some good fish being landed on small bibbed lures, as well as TN60 Jackalls. There are a few Cod on the move. Casting larger Spinnerbaits close to the rock drop-offs is a method that seems to be working well at the moment.

There have been some great Bass coming from Moogerah and Maroon. The fish are holding tight to the timber and southern points. These fish have been falling to a variety of lures, so don’t be afraid to try something new. Coolmunda, to the east of Inglewood, is fishing above average, with quality fish being landed on live bait and lures. Purple and green are the hot colours. There has also been some great Cod being landed also – up to 60 pounds.

If you are in the local area, make sure you call in to Warwick Outdoors and Sports and say g’day to John and Wayne - for expert advice on all your fishing (from kids combo to tournament rigs), boating, hunting and camping requirements.
