Weekly Report 22 Feb 13

Post by Brad » Fri Feb 22, 2013 7:26 pm

G'day everyone, Rain or Shine fishing is always fine. Despite the weather, I got out over the weekend to do some prospecting on the prawn hunt. Did the main run from Cabbage tree point to Redland Bay. I caught enough for a sandwich but some blokes though the week had caught close to their bucket after 150throws around the powerlines area. So hopefully it won't be long for the prawns to begin to run again. A few keen anglers got out early to drop in some crab pots around the bay islands & caught some really nice mud crabs & managed to score a few sand crabs on the Canipa passage side. They stopped at Potts point & caught a few undersized jewfish & plate sized squire on lures.

A main observation of the area is that there is a lot of debris still in the water, but clearing up towards the northern side of the bay with the southern end taking a little longer. The logan river has started holding fish at the mouth but not to far down so worth trying your luck around marks rocks for a few jewies. Now is also the time when short island, crusoe, kalinga bank & Jumpinpin should start to see some larger species of fish. Mangrove jack should see a return this week with a few reports coming from Behms Crk, the Pimpama mouth ,Jacobs well straight & the sticks along on north straddie. Whiting sizes & numbers are the best they've been in years, the time to catch them is on the run out tide in about 2-3m drifting along any sandbanks, once found anchor up. So if you get out on the water this week should have good chance at catching something. From the crew at VP Bait & Tackle, Frandon, Joe n Justin. Look forward to next weeks report.
