Weekly Report 10 Apr 13

Post by Brad » Wed Apr 10, 2013 3:30 pm

G'day every one, rain or shine fishing is always fine. What typical QLD weather conditions we have had, excellent one day, storming the next. The Mackerel, Tuna &
most pelagic species have been very active this week especially on the slugs many reports of catches around Grave, Peel Is & Harry Atkinson's. The bait fish are around & the birds are circling you know the fish won't be far. We have also been catching a few prawns but they are still not schooling up as they have in previous years. But I am sure it won't be long so I would start looking on the early morning tides from Reddy bay, lamb island though to the power lines in to the logan river, Jacobs Well, Behms Creek, Rudy Maars around the moored boats. Squid have been caught along Moreton Island in about 2 too 3 m deep also starting to show up around the Bay islands, it will get better as the water clears, Squid like it clean & salty.

Around Coochiemudlo Is have produced great catches of sand crabs the north west end was far the best we got 5 keepers to 1 pot also from Victoria Point, right up to the mouth of the Brisbane river in about 2 to 3 m of water. Many locals have been reporting & telling us of whiting & bream off the banks & jetty at Victoria Point & banks of Coochie, using worms or squid as bait with light gear & long shank or short shank hooks depends on the bait There has also been snapper and cod caught out at Harry's, all have been good pan size fish with two fish weighing around the 3 kg mark. They were caught on floating pillys and flesh bait, the school mackerel liked the pillys too, the mackerel all got nailed on the bait being wound in to be re-baited. Garfish have also been caught in Horseshoe Bay on a float with a little bit bread.
I hope u can get out over the week, from the crew at VP bait & Tackle, Frandon, Jo & Justin.
