Weekly Report 6 Sep 13

G'day every one, rain or shine fishing is always fine. What amazing weather we are having. The sun has been shining & the wind has held off enough to be able to to do some excellent off shore fishing. The Bay Islands & all the main spots have been alive with Snapper the numbers have increased, but the size has dropped to an average of 35 to 40 cm still makes a good feed, mullet fillet last the longest but fresh squid, pillys worked the best and baby octopus caught the biggest. The Flattys are starting to come on the chew, trolling hard body's lures like Zerek ripper diver #5, Rapala clacking minnow 70mm olive green (Justin's favourite). Soft plastics that have been working well with the flattys are the keitech sexy shad 3#, Zman xrap 8gold & Zerek live shrimp 3.5. All of these are worth trying out.

There has been reports of small Black Marlin and Yellow Tail Tuna just out side the south passage bar to point look out as there is a warm current line running down the coastline it seems to be in close. I took a few mates out offshore on Friday we went out the pin bar straight up to point look out, we fished boat rock and the cluster on the inside of boat rock we manage one pearly, three cod, as the fish were very shy as it had glassed out we could see the bottom in 20m and there was no current as well we as trolled a few lures to no-avail, but it was good to be out there as the whales were putting on a show. I went out on Saturday east of the pin to Alf Reef, we manage a feed of snapper, blue spot Flattys, and some big sergeant bakers and got smoked on two livies.

Whiting are at their best in years as they are reporting that they bagged out in 3 hour 50 each. Some popper lures to try that have been working for the Whiting are
Demiki umpa 40 ghost gill & Strike Pro rack popper red eye. Just walking the banks at high tide flicking a popper on a slow retrieve has seen some of the biggest whiting and the odd bream as well. No reports of mud crabs, there has been some good sand crabs up near Rous channel, northern end of peel, also good time to go out spanner crabbing as they have been caught in large numbers just off the Gold Coast in the 24 to 28 fathom.

Three mates worked 4 pots in 6 hours in 70 meters & manage to score about 20 big crabs and a pair of sore arms. Jews fish have been quiet over the last week with fish that are being landed aren't making the size, with the new moon we should see some large fish landed closer to the bar, will see the bigger fish as they are starting to come in from the ocean this time of year to mate up or spawn. There has been large schools of pike around Coochie, peel, goat, a good soft plastic, gastronomic pintail 3.5 inch, good hard body, ripple ash jig spin 20 mm, strike pro shrimp suspending 50 mm. I hope u can get out over the week, from the crew at Victoria Point Bait & Tackle,
