Weekly Report 20 Dec 13

Post by Brad » Fri Dec 20, 2013 8:49 am

G'day every one, rain or shine fishing is always fine. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you all. Sand crabs are still on the menu, with crabs coming from Redland
Bay north to the port of Brisbane, in the deep water and reasonably clean water. Mud crabs are on the move too after the rain. Reports of many catches in the Logan
River, Redland bay channel & through to Macleay, all the islands around the pin down to the Pimpama. Mangrove Jacks have been caught in the Pimpama River, Behms Crk, around structures or fallen branches in all rivers and creeks.

The Logan River has been the best by far with reports right up to the junction, Marks Rocks, Pitts rocks, the prawn farm pumping station, the best was 58 cm with the average 40 cm, trolling near the structure with hard bodies or sitting back with a live bait all work. Snapper are on the chew, some of the biggest fish of the year as well at Potts point, house boat wreck at peel, Harry's, Army barge, 4beacons & Tangalooma all have caught fish up to 75+ cm average in the 40 cm. Mud, Peel, salt works, Blakelys & Harry's are holding heaps of rats (small snapper). There has also been fish taken on the surface on 2 and 3 inch soft plastic like Zman 3 inch, gulp 3 inch & bass assassin 2 inch on a 1/4 oz jig head, floating out a pilly or whiting or yakka with a very small sinker or under a float about 2 to 3 m under the surface works well as you get away from the pickers.

There has been a lot of Bream around in the same area as well as Flathead & Whiting, any sand banks where you can pump yabbys, will be holding fish with reports from the Pin to Pelican banks & Amity bank, good size fish, using blood worms, squid and small prawns, if there is on hits keep drifting till you find them then throw anchor in, if no bites keep drifting. Spotty Mackeral have showed from the top of Moreton down to south passage bar, trolling hard body's or throwing slugs all work. Find the birds, the birds find the bait you find the fish. There has also been long tail tuna in the same area. Outside has seen Spanish Mackeral, Wahoo, Spottys, Dolphin fish and Snapper, Pearl perch, Venus tuskfish and a few Jew.

A few Squid still hanging around the foreshore and the bay islands with the squid at their biggest of the year, 500 grams is the average with some reaching the 1kg mark. Jew have been running at the pin bar through to Kalinga banks down along short island, the hole at the point of Caruso Island, marks rocks, little rockie point, Pitts rock, giants grave, salt works, Potts point, peel house boat wreck, Harry's and the 4 beacons. I hope u can get out over the week, from the crew at Victoria Point Bait & Tackle, Frandon Heseltine
