BASS
Cressbrook Dam has been a little quieter this week; the upper reaches of the Cressbrook Creek arm, straight out from the boat ramp and the points in the main basin are still holding fish, live shrimp have worked the best, plastics and tailspinners have also landed a few and it’s worth casting suspending minnows to the edges, early morning and late afternoon. Somerset Dam has again produced some good quality Bass this week, Bay13 and the Pelican Point area have been the best spots to target, Tailspinners, Blades and plastics are proving to be effective and live shrimp have again been productive for the bait anglers. Boondooma and Bjelke Peterson Dams have been the standout this week; casting blades and spinnerbaits to the edges has worked well, while soft plastics produced plenty of fish on the flats and Moogerah has fished quite well again, working the timbered area towards the southern end of the dam has been the best, with blades, trolled hard bodies and tailspinners all working well.

YELLOWBELLY AND COD
Cooby Dam has produced a few Yellowbelly and a couple of Cod this past week, the right hand bank out from the dam wall buoy line and into the northern arm has been a good area to work, while frozen saltwater yabbies, trolled hard bodies and jigged ZX blades have been the most effective. Glenlyon has been a little quiet this week, Cod have been scarce, while frozen saltwater yabbies, trolled hard bodies and spinnerbaits have picked up a few Yellowbelly. Plenty of fish taken on trolled darker coloured lures at Coolmunda this week, working the drop-offs to the old creek beds and out from the wall have been the hot spots, while using bait in the timber and on the drop-offs has picked up a few Cod between 60 and 70cm. Leslie Dam saw low numbers of fish landed over the past week, there were a few Yellowbelly landed in the deeper parts of the main basin on blades and soft vibes, there was also a few landed on trolled hard body lures around the Black Boys, while live shrimp also picked up the odd Yellowbelly just to the north of the Ski Club. The highlight of the week was a cracking 104cm Cod caught early on Saturday morning, this fish fell for a 1/4oz blade. Boondooma and Bjelke Peterson have fished similar for Yellowbelly as well, casting spinnerbaits to the edges and around the timber has been effective and using frozen saltwater yabbies around the timber has also picked up a few. As for the rivers, the Macintyre at Goondi has seen spinnerbaits and bait producing plenty of Yellowbelly and the Warwick reaches of the Condamine has produced some decent Yellowbelly on spinnerbaits, hard bodies and frozen saltwater yabbies and don’t forget to release your Murray Cod during closed season – 1 September to 30 November.

COASTAL FISHING
Offshore fishing at the Gold Coast saw plenty of Snapper and big Jewies on the 18’s and 24’s and a few Dolphin Fish are starting to show up on the 50’s. Inshore fishing has been good for Mulloway in the Seaway and inside the Pin Bar; Crab Island and Kalinga Bank have produced decent numbers of Flathead; and some decent Whiting are starting to show up in the Nerang River and also around the Aldershots. At the Sunny Coast, offshore fishing has been a bit quiet due to windy conditions, but North Reef has fished well for Pearlies and Snapper. Inshore fishing has seen plenty of Whiting hitting surface poppers in the passage, good numbers of Bream off the Boardwalk, a mixed bag of Trevally in the Mooloolah River, a few Dart off the beaches and the Noosa River has seen good numbers of Jack’s taken on livies at night in the upper reaches, while worms and yabbies have been working well for Whiting.
