Report 22/12/16

Cooby Dam
There has been some good yellows hitting the decks from Cooby the last few days. Anglers have still been using the trusty Ecogear ZX40 after locating schools on their sounders, The buoy line is always a great place to look. Cooby Cooba’s have also done some great work along the edges slow trolled. The afternoons has also seen a couple of small cod picked up in the weedy section, again slow trolling Cooby Cobba’s. Saltwater yabbies have been doing well for the bait fisho’s. From the banks has produced some good jewies as well as some smaller yellowbellies’.

Cressbrook dam
Cressbrook hasn’t been fishing well for some time. This week has been no exception as its still reporting to be going very slow. People have been saying they can find the schools of Bass out from Deer island Boat ramp/Buoys and the Toilet block, however getting them to bite is another story. Try all new spots and techniques as a new lure or different retrieve pattern that they have never seen before that might be enough of a change for them to have a bite. Don’t be afraid to try anything, just keep in mind what the fish might be feeding on and try to imitate it the best you can. No matter how tough the fishing is you are sure to get something with perseverance and constant trial and error.

Leslie Dam
Still good fish coming from Leslie the past week. The Black Boys and Wash Pool has been reported to be some sure fire places for trolling hard bodies. Some reports of anglers catching up to 37 yellows in an afternoon session. Salt Water yabbies still doing their magic with yellows and small cod taking them fairly quickly once they get down to the right depths. Several medium cod landed this week as well, Jackall TNs, Mask Vibs as well as Transams cast along Cod Ally have done the trick. A few trolled spinnerbaits have also provided the cods as well in the same region.

Coolmunda Dam
Plenty of Good size Yellowbelly and Legal Cod being landed at Coolmunda. The yellowbelly have been on the bite on live shrimp frozen salt Water Yabbies and trolling hard bodies with good cod being takin on spinnerbaits as well as trolling the Tn60 along the old river bed as well as around the timbers. Another lure that has been doing extremely well at Coolmunda are the Bassman Spinner baits, either cast into the timbers or slow trolling along the old river bed, these lures have constantly rewarded anglers with great fish.

Glenlyon/Copeton
Both these dams are still firing full guns. Many good reports of quality size Cod as well as Yellowbelly and Silver Perch being taking all around the shallows. Shallow hard body lures along the drop offs as well as along weed banks and points have been the most productive methods for Cod. Lures such as Southern Cross, Kezza, Gazza and Stump Jumper’s to just name a few have given the best results. Bare in mind, Its always beneficially to all of us if you limit your catch and put back what you wont eat. Because of the great effort for the many different stocking clubs the Cod have started to come back in good numbers. However just continually re-stocking will not guarantee and a full recovery of the Cod. It’s up to all of use to take an active part in protecting our dams and waterway to hopefully guarantee great fishing for the next generation of anglers to come.

Tip of the week
Taking the crowds into consideration over the following weeks will be a good guide of your fishing expectations. Places like Somerset and Moogerah which will have a huge number of skiers that will have a negative effect in the main basing areas, some of the small creeks and rivers and even smaller lakes will be a lot quieter and less effected by boat traffic and could make for some better fishing, especially with this constant warm weather.
