Report 13/10/17

With the predicted rain over the next week get your crab pots out and check them for any holes, make sure you have your ID tag on the pot and your name on the float because the Mud crabs will be flushed out of the rivers and creeks and hopefully into your crab pots. Best bait is Mullet and I prefer one Mullet per pot.

Out on the water over the last fortnight we have seen an increase in pelagic action with Mack Tuna, Longtail Tuna and Spotty Mackerel feeding on the surface. The best spots to look are the Rainbow channel, south of Goat island, the area from Harry Atkinson artificial north to the Green Zone and the Sandhill’s on Moreton island. If you are venturing out over the next month and planning to fish these areas be sure to be rigged and ready with a metal slug or Stickbait tied to the end of a line.

The Diver Whiting have still been in good numbers on the banks in the central Bay with fish to 30cm recorded and healthy numbers as well. Just remember 50 per person in possession. That means what you have in the freezer at home as well.

The Ormiston reef has been fishing well for Bream Mosses Perch and pan size Squire. This area is a great spot to fish with soft plastics as the tidal run is not significant. A three inch Curley Tail plastics on a 1/6 or 1/4 jig head will be enough weight to get to the reef in this area.
Squid are still being caught in the shallows around Peel island and the foreshores with Yamashita ranges of jigs being very popular especially the glow range.

The Brisbane river is fishing well for Threadfin Salmon and Jewfish - soft vibes and 5-7 inch soft plastics are working well at the moment.

Offshore has been fishing well with some nice Snapper taken at the Cathedrals, Trag Jew and Snapper east of the Jumpin Pin bar on the 36s, a few Spanish Mackerel around the group a week ago on trolled Garfish.

For the latest fishing report tune into Nugget on Logan 101 FM Saturday from 6 a.m.
