Report 2/3/18

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Mar 02, 2018 4:36 pm

Due to the conditions over the last week not a lot of reports, Jew and Snapper in the shallows off Moreton and still the occasional Spanish Mackerel, best bait for the Jew and the Snapper have been fresh Mullet fillet and trolled Gar fish for the Mackerel. Try for Dolphinfish at the wave rider and Snapper on Middle reef, Spangled Emperor were caught at the group early in the week.

The challenge this weekend will be the tidal flow with a full moon Friday and high tides at 9.15am on Saturday and 9.45 on Sunday 2.6m to an out of .4 m- the best results will be fishing the one hour window before and after the top and bottom of the tide.

The other challenge will be the amount of fresh water from the rain over the last couple of weeks - the deeper water will fish the best this weekend.

Tuna are in good numbers from Mud Island to the Sand Hills casting stick baits such as Nomad Rip Tide, 125mm and the 155mm, Nomad Mad Scad 115, River 2 Sea skip stick just to name a few. It does seem the fish are moving south so have a look on the way to your favourite spot.

Parrotfish at Myoura Light, best bait Prawns and Sand Crab, fishing this area requires heavy tackle as the run and the pulling power of these fish are exceptional. Diver Whiting at the chain banks, squid and Blood Worms have been the best bait.

Reports of school Mackerel between Mud and St. Helena island best method has been trolling a spoon behind a paravane, when trolling a paravane, the slower the better for the School Mackerel.

Plenty of Mud Crabs have been flushed out of the creeks and rivers so when going for a fish make sure you put a pot or two in the boat and a few Mullet for bait. Tailor have been in good numbers in the southern bay especially around the Pelican Banks best bait has been Pilchard and metal slugs.
