Report 16/4/15

With the weather in the bay looking less than ideal it might be worth heading to one of the dams near by.

Moogerah Dam is fishing well at the moment and the bass are schooling up near the timber and in the back of the bays near the dam wall. Nories spinners and jackall Tn60s are doing most of the damage as the bass are hanging fairly deep in the water. If the fish are a little pressured it might be worth trying some soft plastics like the Keitech Sexy Impacts or Ecogear 3" Power shads rigged on 1/6oz jigheads.

Maroon is only a few min away from Moogerah but the bass here behave a little different. The bass at Maroon tend to use the numerous weedbeds around the edge of the dam as cover to ambush prey. For this reason focusing on this area should see you hooked up to some bass.

Go to lures for Maroon would be Jerkbaits like the Daiwa Double Clutch, Jackall Squirrels or even the Nories Laydown Minnows. All these lures will allow you to pause the lure near the weed beds and ramain in the strike zone. The hits from the bass here can be quite nasty so hold on to your rods.

Surface lures are also worth trying if you are an early riser, Bass love to hit bugs, frogs and fish near the surface at maroon as they are an easy meal. Small surface poppers or padlers are a great choce and the Tiemco Soft Shell Cicada is gaining a very good reputation. Soft palstics rigged weedless can also be a lot of fun brought across the top of the lilly pads and can lead to some amazing surface strikes.

If you are thinking of hitting the dams soon come in and see us and we wil be able to point you in the right dirrection on the lure wall. We also stock freshwater worms if bait is more your scene.

Matthew.
