Report 12/1/18

Post by subeditor » Fri Jan 12, 2018 1:20 pm

As another nice week on the Gold Coast comes to an end let’s have a look at what’s been biting and a few fishing options for the weekend.
After recent rain on the Gold Coast has flushed out the system, plenty of bait fish have moved back into the upper reaches of the Coomera River along with a list of predators. Reports of large GT and quality Mangrove Jack being caught is great for local angles keen to get out over the weekend for a fish. We have seen some good action around the entrance of Gold Coast City Marina with large Trevally smashing schools of Mullet and the odd Bull Shark cruising around. It would be worth while trying all the rock walls from Hope Harbour in the South Arm up to the Coomera River Highway Bridge, Pontoons and Bridge Pylons with either live bait or lures. Big Estuary Cod is another river species that is common and puts up a great fight.
Whilst most anglers are thinking Pelagic species during summer, bottom fishing can still be great depending on the current. We were lucky enough to get out for a fish on Sunday and scored a great catch of quality Snapper by finding a good show on the sounder, using plenty of burley and float lining large whole squid and WA Pilchards. With a bit more current around you will need a bit more weight than normal. The 18 and 24 fathom reefs are your best bet. Palm Beach and Mermaid reef are producing a feed of Spotted and a few Spanish mackerel, good numbers of fish are yet to make an appearance, and hopefully they are not too far away.

Houseboat customers have done well around the Jumpinpin area as the water quality improves landing quite a good range of species during the week including GT Trevally, Squire, small Hammer Head Sharks, Bream, Flathead and Whiting.

Customers have been scoring a feed of Mud Crabs and Sand Crabs this week. Some good spots have been the Coomera River North Arm and South Arm, Pimpama River, Tipplers Passage, Brown Island, Eastern Side of the Aldershots, Jacobs Well, Eden Island, Tiger Mullet Channel, Tabby Tabby Island and Canaipa Passage.

Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any reports please let us know how you went.

Seabreeze is a great website to access a local forecast http://www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/

At the time of writing my report the weekend is looking a bit average with strong Northerly winds predicted for Saturday before spinning around to a strong South Easterly on Sunday and an increase in swell offshore. Sticking to the Broadwater or Jumpinpin would be the best option as there are plenty of options to hide out of the wind to fish. Just make sure you have the most up to date weather forecast before heading out on the water.
If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au Good luck with the Fishing.
