Report 4/10/18

Post by Nicole Penfold » Wed Oct 03, 2018 4:27 pm

Hi Everyone, hope you’ve all had a great week, it’s nice to see the sun shining for everyone enjoying the School Holidays on the Gold Coast. Finally the wind has eased giving us better conditions to enjoy some Fishing.

As the weather heats up in October we will see anglers starting to chase Mangrove Jack around the Gold Coast. If you’re fishing in the Coomera River try targeting the structure around Gold Coast City Marina, Coomera Highway and Train Bridges and also jetty’s and rock walls in the river near Sanctuary Cove in the search of a Red Bruiser. Zman 3” & 4” minnows in Pearl White & Red Calico Candy seem to be a favourite choice in the river. Just keep on casting and varying your retrieve and eventually you will be rewarded. Live bait is a great option if you’re chasing your first Jack, cast netting herring, mullet, silver biddies, garfish or pike will make great bait. Bycatch like Estuary Cod and Trevally will be a bonus whilst searching for a Jack.

Coomera Houseboat Holidays customers have had some great fun this week making the most of school holidays and some better weather catching some nice Bream and Whiting around Jumpinpin and the Southern Broadwater. Yabbies, worms and prawns have been the go to bait producing some quality fish. Some good spots are Canaipa Passage near the mouth of Cobby Passage, Short Island Huts, Slipping Sands, Crusoe Island, Gold Bank, Eden Island, Tiger Mullet Channel, Coomera River both North and South Arms, Paradise Point, Crab Island and Wave Break Island.

Smithy from Brad Smith Fishing Charters has finding his customers some fantastic Jewfish action in the upper reaches of the Tweed River working metal vibe lures. Clint has been spending his time in the Broadwater and Nerang River scoring a nice mixture of Flathead, Whiting, Tusk Fish, Bream, Tarwhine, Scad and the odd Squire.

Luke (see photo in report) scored a solid 92cm Jewfish from a local river on the Gold Coast casting a lure on 12lb line.

Well done to all the Teams and hundreds of Anglers that fished this year’s Gold Coast Flathead Classic, the weather was average for the first couple of days making fishing conditions pretty tough. Flathead fishing will still be good during October, Coomera Bait and Tackle customers have reported some nice fish being caught in the main Broadwater along South Stradbroke Island near Brown Island, Currigee, Wave Break Island and in the Gold Coast Seaway. It’s good to hear reports of the snot weed starting to thin out a bit making trolling lures easier. If you want to try your luck around Jumpinpin try Crusoe Island, Tiger Mullet Channel, Kalinga Bank, Pin Bar Entrance, Pandanus Island and the north end of the Never Fails Islands.

Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any great catches or photos you would like to share, please email us and let us know how you went.

Seabreeze is a great website to access a local forecast http://www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/

At the time of writing my report the forecast looks like we will see light Northerly winds and some rain Friday. Saturday will see a S/SE wind change that will strengthen as the day goes on, we should see the SE wind ease during the day on Sunday I always recommend you have the latest weather report before you head out on the water.

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au.

Good luck with the Fishing, Brett
