Report 2/11/18

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Nov 16, 2018 4:49 pm

It’s nice to see reports of quality Mangrove Jack from our customers this week, Eli did well landing a quality Jack in the Pimpama River over the weekend with his Dad (fish pictured in the report) this is a great sign as we head towards summer. The rivers are slowly getting back to normal after the rain, with good bait schools on the move it is worth getting out for a look. You can find some good spots whether you are land based or have a boat or kyak. Try fishing bridges, jetty’s and structure in the Logan River, Coomera River, Pimpama River, Nerang River, Runaway Bay Canals, Paradise Point, Currumbin Creek and the Tweed River. Some nice Trevally have also been cruising the rivers like the one Josh tempted on a surface lure in the Currumbin Creek (see photo in report) Live baits or lures should temp a bite, just be ready to put the brakes on before the fish drags you back into it’s snag.

The gold Coast Seaway has been producing a few nice Jew this week, fishing live baits like yakka’s, pike and herring on the pipeline on the top of the tide and the first hour of the run out tide being the best time to target a Jew. A few nice Trevally have also been taking baits and plastics whilst working the Seaway north wall and pipeline structure.

Customers reported that the current of the close local reefs has still not picked too much this week making chasing a feed of bottom fish a good option. Snapper, Trag Jew, Tusk Fish and Moses Perch have made up the bulk of the catch from the 18 to 24 fathom reefs. It will be worth trying for an early season Mackerel soon, if you get bitten off whilst dropping down bottom fishing with a live bait or WA pilchard send the next one down on a wire rig as we will start to see Spotted and Spanish starting to move into the local reefs soon.

Clint from Brad Smith Fishing Charters said the Tweed River is still pretty dirty after the rain but Brad has been catching his customers some quality Flathead. Clint has been mainly fishing the Broadwater this week scoring his customers a nice variety of Flathead, Flounder, Whiting, Bream and the odd squid.

Coomera Houseboat Holidays customers have a been catching a nice feed of Whiting this week, live worms and yabbies are great bait and also preserved beach worms will work fine. Some good spots to try are the Logan River, Canaipa Passage, Bedrooms, Gold Bank, Jacobs Well, Coomera River North or South Arms, Crab Island, Nerang River, Wave Break Island and Marine Stadium. You may need to move a bit but once you find the fish feeding you should catch a good feed. I recommend a nice long trace of 6lb fluro carbon leader matched with a small size 6 bait holder hook and at least a size 4 sinker to keep your bait in the strike zone, a bit of tidal flow is preferable.

Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any great catches or photos you would like to share, please email us and let us know how you went.
