River: A little quiet. Plenty of blackfish but no weed so try sea cabbage in the daytime and yabbies at night. A few bream around the mouth, cut bait and mullet gut working well on the top and bottom of the tide, try at night for a better class of fish. Trevally biting at times but the water a little dirty. A lot of school flatties further up, try Seagulls, the Piggery and even to Murwillumbah. Plenty of these fish are smaller than the legal 36cm. Bass also around Murwillumbah but remember, it’s closed season until September so it’s illegal to possess any.
Beaches are just starting to kick in, a few tailor at Kingscliff and at Cabarita, where there are also some small squire, bream and morwong from the rocks. Some big dart in the gutters from Cabarita to Hastings Point and some tailor from the rocks down that way, especially after dark. The sand pumping jetty at Southport was loaded with chopper tailor to 2kg today (Friday) and almost as many Asian anglers.
Offshore: Water around 20° and milky green but seems to be clearing from the south. Not much happening on the bottom so far but there should be something turning up before long.
