Weekly Report 9 Jul 13

Post by Brad » Tue Jul 09, 2013 6:47 pm

G'day every one, rain or shine fishing is always fine. Well we were kinda rained out last week so there wasn't too much action on the water but plenty of fish out there to be caught. Whiting have been caught of the banks, beaches, jetties & shallow sand banks around Victoria Point & Bay Islands, Cabbage Tree Point boat ramp along the beach, pelican banks, banana bank, little rock point & browns bay. Blood worms, small prawns an squid in very thin strips.Reports of a few sand crabs but no very many muddies.

Snapper have been hanging everywhere where there is rubble, clams or some sort of structure to have fish pass through the area or to hold in the one spot. It is a good idea to slow down 2 ,3 hundred meters before you get to your spot X so u can sound the area to see if the fish are holding in new ground, you may not have fished only 2, 3 hundred meters way now becomes spot XY. The Snapper have been in about 20bfeet deep around the Bay islands & on the artificial reefs they have been in the deep during the day & coming in to the shallows at night. Harry's, house boat wreck at Peel, Coochie artificial reef, mud, the sink hole, Potts point & Goat have all held fish with a few 70cm+ crackers but the most are in the 40cm to 50cm mark.

Bream are also being caught in the same spots the Snapper are hanging out.Jo an Justin went for a bay fish at Potts an got two Squire one at 53 cm 44 cm all on mullet fillets. Mick from the club & shop also went out to fishermen's wharf and caught some squire, big bream 42cm, 38cm on soft plastics, 2 inch bass assassins. Bream have been very active in all locations from the banks as well. Squid have been more active at night along the jetties, shallows & foreshores not much around the islands of late as they have stayed in the deep on the banana banks any where there is sea weed growing should hold Squid.

Pelagic species were quiet this week with all the rain that we have had but the Tailor showed up in the Bars, Southport, The Pin, South passage, Pelican banks,Wally's gutter, Crusoe, slipping sands, more on the eastern side of the islands.Jew have showed this week at Marks Rocks, Redland Bay Channel, Giants grave, salt works, the Pin and the Seaway & the wreck at Potts point but 90 % were too small.

The coming weeks should see the size improve. 75cm is the legal size for Jew. 7 inch bass assassin are my favourite but a nice fillet of mullet will do the job if you can't catch any livies as mullet, pike, gar, herring, tailor, squid will all work, as some might say the bigger the bait the bigger the fish. I hope u can get out over the week, from the crew at Victoria Point Bait & Tackle, Like our page on FB. Frandon, Joe & Justin.
