Report 15/1/15

Post by subeditor » Thu Jan 15, 2015 1:12 pm

Well there has been some good winter whiting up at Rous and towards the sand hill but there has been some cracker Summer whiting coming from the Logan river, in front of Cabbage Tree Point boat ramp and off the bank, Cobbys passage, power lines, and the banks near the pin with fish in the high 30s the average. Flathead are hitting hard body's meant for jacks as there has been a lot of attention to the jacks, when the water temp gets above 25 the jacks come on the bite and when we have those nights it's to hot to sleep the jacks are thinking the same, lets eat. The rivers that have less water flow and depth like the Pimpama, Coomera, Behms creek, Eprapah Creek, the water heats up faster so at night to find the jacks you just need to drift with the tide and you will hear them smashing the bait fish close to the surface then concentrate your fishing around those areas.

Jew size should pick up with a lot in the 60to70 range in the last few weeks only a couple over a metre, Pitts rock, Marks rock, Redland Bay Channel, giants grave, the deep hole in Cobby Cobby passage, short island, the salt works, Blakelys, Potts point, Coochie artificial, slipping sands, Caniapa passage, they have all fished well just no big ones yet but the Jumpin Pin and Seaway have fished the best with livies doing the most of the damage. A few big thread fin salmon have been coming from the mouth of the logan, one went 1.3m, on live herring & banana prawns, they have also been on the edge of the holes.

The Mudcrabs are on the march anywhere the has been fresh water run off should be first place to go, logan river on the western side of the bay islands. Banana prawns are jumping around so now is the time to get the cast net out fix any holes as the rain will push them out of the rivers, there has been a few tiger prawns cast netted around the bay islands, salt works in the deep hole is the place to start. Snapper have been hit and miss but the ones that have been caught are on the big size around Potts point, Coochie artificial, Coochie floating red bouy, goat, peel north east side, Harry's, mud, and the port of Brisbane all have fished well. Sweet lip, morwong, cod, moses perch, small Cobia, Jew, Trevally, and a yellowtail kingfish have come in fishing for snapper, there has also been some big kings at Dunwich around the pylons but most are unstoppable, whiting and yakka, pillys squid have been best bait & even whiting frames. Mackeral have started to show up at Harry's, rous channel, amity, rainbow Channel, four beacons with a few big Cobia coming from the same area mainly spotty and schoolies but there will be a few Spanish in there too.

Outside has seen good catch of reef fish pearl perch, snapper, teraglin, spangled emperor & parrot but most have been trolling for marlin, MahiMahi, wahoo, Spanish & tuna with the reefs east of the pin in 50to60m of water have been the best. It's a good place to start find the bait you will find the big fish when you find the bait try to work the out side of the schools, troll between 6 to 12knots. Hex head skirts have been doing well small to medium in size lure.
