Report 23/10/15

Post by subeditor » Fri Oct 23, 2015 9:44 am

The Northerly winds have been persistent this week on the Gold Coast, we will see a Southerly change on Friday, and hopefully it may help to clean the water quality a bit in the main Broadwater. Let’s have a look at a few options.
Our Houseboat customers have been finding some massive Flathead, quality Jew and a mixed bag of Bream, Whiting and Tailor around Jumpinpin the past week. The best Flathead was 94cm caught & released see pic at www.facebook.com/CoomeraBaitandTackle was from Andy who spent some time out on one of our Houseboats. He reported the Pin Bar mouth along Kalinga Bank, Crusoe Island and Tiger Mullet were all productive with a bit of bait moving through these areas. Most of the larger fish were caught on live Mullet, Winter Whiting and Herring cast netted in the area. Lots of quality Flathead 45-60cm were hitting soft plastics, blades and vibes. Some nice Flathead have also been caught in Canaipa Passage, Whalleys Gutter, Jacobs Well, Logan River, Tipplers Passage, Coomera River, Crab Island and the Gold Coast Seaway is holding some big Flathead at the moment.
We are still seeing some good sized late season Tailor around the Pin Bar and also the Gold Coast Seaway which means there are still some good schools of bait moving through.
Some nice Whiting and Bream have been caught around most sandbanks throughout the Broadwater and Pin area, we also have some great land based spots to catch a feed like Paradise Point, Runaway Bay, Labrador, Southport, Marine Stadium, Nerang River, Coomera River, Logan River and Jacobs Well. Best baits Yabbies and Worms for Whiting & Bream. If you are just targeting Bream you may also try Prawns, White Pilchards and Mullet Fillet.
Our Customers have reported a few nice Mud Crabs in the Coomera River this week, also the Pimpama River and the Neverfails, Jacobs Well and Canaipa Passage have produced a feed, there is still a bit of weed around which can foul up the pots, a good dose of rain will get things moving. Some quality Sand Crabs have also been caught around the edges on most of the main channels in the Broadwater and Pin.
At the time of writing my report the forecast for the weekend will be strong SE winds on Friday then easing on Saturday. My pick off the days will be Sunday to get out amongst the fish.
If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au Good luck with the Fishing. Brett
