Report 11/3/16

Post by subeditor » Fri Mar 11, 2016 1:49 pm

Light to moderate South to South Easterly winds and showers have been the normal this week on the Gold Coast with a bit of extra rain during the night. The fresh water flush is just what the area needs to get the bait fish and Mud Crabs on the move.
Our customers have landed some quality Whiting this week on Yabbies and Worms. Areas that produced a feed are Marine Stadium, Wave Break Island, Esplanade at Biggera Waters, Paradise Point, Coomera River, The Never Fail Islands, Jacobs Well Shoals, Gold Bank, North Bedrooms and Logan River. Tidal flow is important when targeting Whiting, the more movement in the tide the more bites you will get. Use a larger sinker 4# ball and a long trace of 6lb fluorocarbon should work.
Reports of a few nice Mud Crabs being caught thanks to the bit of rain we’ve had flushing out the Rivers and Creeks. Try setting your pots in the river mouths or closer to the edges of main channels to catch a feed. Some of the better spots include the Mouth of the Coomera River, Pimpama River, Cobby Passage, Jacobs Well, Dux, Curtis Anchorage, Cabbage Tree Point, Mouth of the Logan River and the Never Fail Islands. Whole Mullet or fresh Fish frames will do the trick, I do recommend to use a wire bait bag to stop the pickers stealing the bait.
The bit of fresh in the system should push the bait schools closer to the ocean entrances on the run out tide, it will be worth a look around the Gold Coast Seaway and the Jumpinpin Bar mouth for a Jewfish, Trevally, Squire or Tailor.
Some nice sized Bream have been caught in the Seaway along the South Wall and on the pipeline. Also try the rock walls at Labrador and Biggera waters, Paradise Point Jetty, Coomera River Bridge, Dux, Tiger Mullet Channel, Jacobs Well, Marks Rocks and the Power Lines for a feed. Best baits for Bream would be mullet fillet, chicken gut, prawns or white pilly’s which work well and also yabbies are great but can attract a few smaller fish, which is good fun for the kids.
At the time of writing my report it looks like we will see the exact same forecast as last week with light to moderate South to South Easterly winds and the chance of a light shower over the weekend and also the same forecast extending into next week.
If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au Good luck with the Fishing.
