Report 13/5/16

Post by subeditor » Fri May 13, 2016 1:33 pm

As another classic week of great weather on the Gold Coast comes to an end we have seen some early West / North West winds during the week seeing the temperature drop since Tuesday. Let’s see what’s been biting.
Local angler Thomas made the most of the great conditions on Monday sneaking offshore for a look, he managed to land a monster 24.5kg Wahoo that was tempted by a live yakka right next to his boat East of the Gold Coast Seaway. May is a great month to chase Wahoo, they are usually much better quality fish than the summer run. Trolling live baits, dead baits, skirts and hard body lures are the usual methods to temp a bite, you will also attract any Spanish Mackerel in the area at the time.
With great conditions on the way heading out to the reefs for a bottom fishing will be worth a go, the 50 fathom line has produced some nice AJ’S, Pearlies, Kingfish, Snapper and mixed species. The 36, 24 and 18 fathom reefs will also produce a mixed bag of Snapper, Mauri Cod, Moses Perch, Kingfish, Cobia and the odd Pearl Perch mainly on the 36’s. Float lining WA Pillies, Large Squid or live Bait’s will produce some quality fish.
With the water clarity being so good lately we have had great catches of Sand Crabs throughout the Broadwater, Jumpinpin and Rivers. A few Mud Crabs have shown up, those Bucks have been quite full as we head towards winter.
Customers have been finding some good early season Bream around Short Island, Tiger Mullet Channel, Logan River, Jacobs Well, Tipplers Passage, The Coomera River, Paradise Point and the Gold Coast Seaway. Mullet Fillet, White Pilchards, Fisho’s and Yabbies are great bait.
Reports of a few Tailor and Trevally showing this week throughout the system, we have plenty of Herring schools in the Coomera River and bait schools at the Pin and around the Seaway.
Good school sized Flathead have been on the chew as the water slowly cools down, lures and baits have both worked well.

At the time of writing my report it looks like we will see light winds over the weekend and well into next week. They move around from Southerly to Northerly but will remain light, great conditions to get amongst the action.
If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au Good luck with the Fishing. Brett
