Report 18/11/16

Post by subeditor » Fri Nov 18, 2016 11:43 am

Hi Everyone, it’s nice to be back on deck after a good relaxing holiday. I have been spending the week getting up to date with how the fishing has been on the Gold Coast. We’ve had a good week weather wise and looking ahead the forecast is for more nice weather on the way.
It’s nice to be back after spending a couple of weeks up north at Tin Can Bay, we towed the tinnie up and managed to sneak out up the Great Sandy Straits for a few trips. No matter where you fish if you are not familiar with a certain area just follow a few basic steps and eventually you will find some fish. A few tips are to have a chat to the locals at the ramp and tackle shop, use your sounder to spot good areas to fish like structure and bait and also keep your eyes peeled for birds and bait and fish breaking the surface. We ended up catching a few great fish inshore, it’s amazing the variety of species on offer. Here is a list of the fish caught on one trip, Cod, Moses Perch, Bream, Grassy Sweetlip, Nannygai, Flathead, Spangled Emperor, Snapper and Tarwine all caught using whole WA pilchards floating lining on gravel and structure we noticed on the sounder. I will post some photos to facebook next week of some of the better fish.
Local angler Ben has been finding a few nice Flathead up around the Jumpinpin area managing a new PB 86cm fish last weekend working large soft plastics, well done. From reports the Gold Coast Sports Fish Club had a great day last Sunday for the Flathead dash for cash seeing a few nice fish caught including a 91cm Croc to take out biggest fish. November will see good numbers of large fish on offer around the Pin Bar, Gold Coast Seaway entrances and the Pin and Broadwater for those willing to put in the time. Soft Plastics, Soft Vibes, Metal Blades or drifting whole WA Pilchards, White Pilchards or Yabbies are all good options.
Customers have been finding some quality Mangrove Jack in the Coomera River around Gold Coast City Marine, Railway Bridge, Highway Bridge, Coleman Hole and the weir. I have noticed heaps of Herring in the river and the Jacks are feeding well. Locals have been busted off by some monsters in the river 60cm + fish while casting 4” Zman Minnows are jettys and structure.

Some nice Whiting have been caught on the Houseboats at Jacobs Well, Green Bank, Gold Bank, Bedrooms, Canaipa Passage, Logan River, Coomera River, Crab Island, you could also try the Nerang River on Worms and small Yabbies.
