Report 25/11/16

Post by subeditor » Fri Nov 25, 2016 2:10 pm

As another nice week comes to an end on the Gold Coast let’s have a look at what’s been biting and a few good spots to try for a feed of fish or crab.
Coomera Houseboat Holidays staff member Kelly did well last weekend finding a good feed of Mud Crabs in the Coomera River using whole mullet for bait, although we have not had a lot of rain during the super moon phase we did see extra big high tides that broke a few banks on the Coomera and flooded the shore line and creeks helping to get the Mud Crabs on the move. Customers have found some Mud Crabs in Brown Island, Pimpama River, Jacobs Well, Cabbage Tree Point, Canaipa Passage and the Logan River. There is also plenty of Sand Crabs being caught throughout the Broadwater and Jumpinin.
Quality Bream have been on the chew in the Gold Coast Seaway, Wave Break Island, Lands End, Paradise Point, throughout the North & South arm of the Coomera, Tiger Mullet Channel, Jacobs Well and the Logan River. Some good size fish are being caught which is good for this time of year, my best tip is to keep a good burly trail going to keep the fish feeding. Best bait is Prawns, Squid, White Pilchards, WA Pilly cubes, Mullet Gut and Mullet Fillet.
The Gold Coast seaway Pipeline has produced a few nice Jew Fish and Trevally this week, drifting through the Seaway and in the main Broadwater channel is also a good option. Live Pike, Herring or Mullet will work, dead bait like whole WA Pilchards or Mullet fillet will also work. Large Zman Plastics, Micro Jigs and Switch Blades will do the job. Best to fish this area the hour before and hour after the tide change.
Customers have scored some quality Whiting again this week using Yabbies and Worms for bait. The Sandbanks just North of Wave Break Island, Crab Island, Paradise Point are fishing well, Whiting are not really affected by boating traffic and noise like other species. Some other good spots are Jacobs Well Shoals, Coomera River, Tiger Mullet Channel, Bedrooms, Canaipa Passage and the Logan River west of the prawn farm.

Seabreeze is a great website to access a local forecast http://www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/
At the time of writing my report the weather is looking ok this weekend with light to moderate E/NE winds for Saturday and Sunday just the chance of the odd shower. We’ve had a bit of swell around offshore this week, I would recommend checking the forecast and also the condition of the local bars before heading offshore this weekend.
If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au Good luck with the Fishing. Brett
