Report 16/12/16

Post by subeditor » Fri Dec 16, 2016 10:44 am

Good weather on the Gold Coast this week has given everyone lots of School Holiday fishing options both inshore for the Houseboat customers and offshore as well.
Local angler Michael has been getting stuck into some quality Mangrove Jacks in the Coomera River the last few weeks on soft plastics and hard body lures both during daylight hours and at night time. Try fishing the local bridges, rock walls, jetty’s, pontoons and rock bars in the North Arm of the Coomera, Salt Water Creek and Paradise Point.

Houseboat customers have been catching a good feed of Whiting using worms and yabbies as bait. Try Tiger Muller Channel, Green Bank, Bedrooms, Canaipa Passage, Jacobs Well, Coomera River, Paradise Point, Wave Break Island and the Nerang River. Taking the kids for a land based fish is a great option and a fun way to spend some time outdoors. When targeting Whiting you will also be in with a good chance at catching Bream and Flathead.
I managed to sneak out offshore with my daughter and mate Wayne during the week, we fished around the local 24 and 18 fathom reefs east to southeast of the Seaway. Not much current around, the water quality was on the improve after last week’s northerly winds. Plenty of different species on offer like Squire, Peal Perch, Moses Perch, Maori Cod and we even caught at large squid. You will have to pick through a few small fish at the moment as we transition into summer, in saying that I did hook a couple of larger ones that managed to find their way back into the reef.
By now most anglers will already know about the restrictions placed on the Logan River. Here is some information on the taking of crustations and the closure to the Logan River. Biosecurity Queensland has placed an aquaculture farm south of Brisbane under movement controls after test results confirmed a case of ‘white spot disease’ (WSD) in prawns. https://www.daf.qld.gov.au/services/new ... conference
Houseboat customers have been catching a good feed of Sand Crabs throughout the main channels of the Broadwater and Jumpinpin. Mud Crabs have slowed down a bit this week after a bit of a run after the recent rain but it is still worth setting the pots in the river after the large tides due to this week’s full moon.
Coomera Houseboat Holidays/Coomera Bait & Tackle now have Hire Tinnies follow the link to view http://www.coomerahouseboats.com.au/our ... e-tinnies/
Seabreeze is a great website to access a local forecast http://www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/
At the time of writing my report we will see moderate Northerly winds on Friday and Saturday before a strong S/SE change moves through Sunday bring some rain and large swell with it. Looks like sticking to our sheltered estuary’s and rivers on the Gold Coast will be the best option.
If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au Good luck with the Fishing. Brett
