Report 23/3/17

Post by subeditor » Thu Mar 23, 2017 1:14 pm

We’ve had another wet week here on the Gold Coast with heavy falls of rain last Sunday and more patchy showers during the week adding to the fresh water runoff making its way into our rivers and main channels. Despite the fresh flush the fishing has been ok at times and the Mud Crabs have been on the chew.
The Coomera River is looking pretty muddy this week with loads of fresh pouring over the Coomera weir and making its way out the Broadwater. We definitely needed the rain and we will see the benefit of this in the coming months.

I fished in the Pirtek Fishing Challenge on Sunday 19/3/17 with my 2 children, heavy rain combined with storms that seemed to roll through all day not giving us much respite from the hard conditions. Despite the wet conditions the wind was fairly light and the fish were around in reasonable numbers. Over the day we managed to catch and release over 20 Whiting nothing less than 30cm in length using worms as bait. It’s a great day out with the family and mates and a fantastic feeling to be able to do something you enjoy and all proceeds of the comp go towards Prostate Cancer Research. The results from last weekend’s fishing will be available from Saturday 25/3/17 via https://pirtekfishingchallenge.com.au/ Good luck to everyone that fished.
Local angler Wayne has been finding some quality Tailor round the Seaway entrance for the past couple of weeks on the last of the incoming tide. He has been doing well on both surface lures and casting metal slugs into the feeding schools of fish. Just keep a eye out for birds working and surface action and you should find the fish. The Pin Bar has also produced some good Tailor getting stuck into the bait fish being washed out.
With all the fresh run off in the system fishing close to the Pin Bar or Gold Coast Seaway ocean entrances on the incoming tide will give you the best opportunity to find fish. It will be a real mixed bag sometimes you just never know what may show up. The conditions should produce Jew Fish, Trevally, Bream, Squire, Flathead, a few Grassy Sweetlips and Tusk Fish have also been caught.

Our Houseboat customers did well making the most of the flush out getting stuck in to some quality Mud Crabs this week. Our customers were pretty well spread out this week throughout the area and all found a feed. Some good spots were the mouth of the Logan River, Canaipa Passage, Kouryabba, Western side of Russell Island, Jacobs Well, Tipplers Passage, The Never Fail Islands, Aldershots Western Side, Brown Island, Coomera River North and South Arms and Pimpama River.

At the time of writing my report we will see moderate SE winds Friday and Saturday and some sunshine, Sunday looks like the pick on the days with light NE winds and a small swell for the offshore fishos looking to get out amongst the action . Make sure your up to date with the latest weather forecast before you head out on the water.

If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au Good luck with the Fishing.
Coomera Bait & Tackle operates with Coomera Houseboat Holidays. We are open 7 days a week offering a great range of Fishing Tackle Gold Coast for our local area as well as bait & ice.
