Report 20/4/17

Post by subeditor » Thu Apr 27, 2017 2:03 pm

Well what a great Easter we have had here on the Gold Coast. Light winds and sunny days, there was a shower or two threating a couple of times but never eventuated to anything much.
Our houseboat customers have mostly reported they got good catches of Crabs and fish over our 5 night Easter charter. In most areas even the upper reaches of the rivers Sand Crabs have been out numbering Mud Crabs this past week. Make sure you’re up to date with all the rules if you are setting the crab pots.

We have had a report of a monster muddy being caught in Tiger Mullet Channel this week. As the water quality is almost back to normal after the rain, better catches are being reported from Tiger Mullet Channel, both the eastern end near the feeder creek on Crusoe Island and western end feeder creeks near the Kangaroo Island reserve sign. Also Eden Island, Cobby Passage, Kouryabba, Logan River, Cabbage Tree Point, Jacobs Well, Never Fails, Coomera River both north and south arms.

A few nice Flathead have been caught this week around The Bedrooms, Tipplers Passage, Crab Island, Wave Break Island, Brown Island, Jacobs Well, Tiger Mullet Channel, Logan River and the Coomera River. They are a great fish for the kids to target, you can drift either live or dead bait. When at anchor the little ones like to wind in and cast out a lot which defiantly attracts the Flathead to strike. You can also troll hard body lures, work blades, Zerek fish trap vibes or flick soft plastics like the Zman Range 3 and 4 inch minnow or curl tale.
In the Coomera river customers have been catching some nice Moses Perch, Mangrove Jack, Trevally and Estuary Cod on metal vibes, plastics, hard body lures and live baits. Whilst a lot of Moses are undersized, remember the keepers have a bag limit of 5 fish per person. Bridges, boat ramps, rock walls, fallen trees and jetty’s are all good spots to fish proving good hiding spots for these predators.
The weather is looking good for the next few days with the South to South Easterlies dropping off making Sunday the pick of the week end days. If you’re considering heading offshore for a look try closer to the 18 and 24 fathom areas as they should produce a feed of Snapper, Trag, Tusk, Moses and Jew Fish depending on the current. Chasing a pelagic like Spanish Mackerel will be on the cards, either trolling lures or live baits to cover area is a great option. If you burly up whilst bottom fishing and you get bitten off send the next bait down on wire as is will more than likely be a Mackerel.

Coomera Houseboat Holidays/Coomera Bait & Tackle now have Hire Tinnies follow the link to view http://www.coomerahouseboats.com.au/our ... e-tinnies/

Seabreeze is a great website to access a local forecast http://www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/

At the time of writing my report we will see moderate Southerly winds on Good Friday before tending light Easterly winds over the weekend and into next week. The forecast looks awesome for getting out on the water over Easter. Just remember to check the latest forecast before heading out.

Just remember the waterways and local boat ramps will be ultra-busy during the public holiday Easter break so bring your patience and manners and have a safe holiday.
If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au Good luck with the Fishing.

Brett
