Report 11/8/17

Post by subeditor » Fri Aug 11, 2017 1:17 pm

We’ve had another fantastic week of weather on the Gold Coast and with more good weather on the way you should get out and make the most of the local fishing action. Customers have been getting stuck into some good fishing this week.
Anglers have been making the most of the light winds and small swell this week getting stuck into some nice Snapper on the 18 & 24 fathom reef off the gold Coast. A bit of variety has been on offer including Spangled Emperor, Grass Sweetlip, Jew Fish, Moses Perch, Trag Jew, Tusk Fish and a few Pearl Perch. At this stage the forecast is looking good for the weekend to get out amongst the action, float lining whole WA pilchards and Large Squid is a great method and also working large soft plastics or a variety of jigs has produced some quality fish. Try and get out for the sunrise bite for the best chance at a fish.

The conditions for beach fishing this week have been perfect, many anglers have done very well catching some nice Tailor in the local surf gutters from Palm Beach North to the sand pumping jetty. Our Houseboat customers did well walking across South Stradbroke Island finding a few schools of Tailor on the chew. Also fishing the entrances and main channels around the Gold Coast Seaway and Pin Bar on the incoming tide has seen its fair share of Tailor action this week with some nice sized fish showing up. Drifting whole WA pilchards, Mullet Fillet Strips, Trolling Shallow diving hard body lures and working surface lures and metal slugs are all options to try your luck.
Flathead have been around in good numbers this week, Don and the crew from the Sundowners Fishing Club had a good weekend out on our Houseboat Keiko finding some quality Flathead around the Pin including a 64cm fish caught by the young fella in this week’s report photo, well done. I have been getting out for a fish for the past few weeks and been doing pretty well using Zman Streakz Curly Tails rigged on TT Headlockz jig heads in 3/8 and ¼ ounce. Finding the bait will make a big difference to your days fishing. Jumpinpin has fished well with some big fish being caught and also some nice sized eating fish around the 40-50 cm mark. Good spots to look are the Pin Bar Mouth and along Kalinga Bank, Bedrooms, Crusoe Island, Green Bank, Tiger Mullet Channel, Eden Island, Canaipa Passage, Jacobs Well, Logan River and the Never Fail Islands. The Broadwater has also seen consistent fishing, best spots are the Tipplers Passage, The Never Fail Islands, Coomera River North & South arms, Pimpama River, Brown Island, Aldershots and the Gold Coast Seaway rock walls. Trolling lures if the weed isn’t too bad is a good option to cover ground and find fish, once you locate a good area then cast plastics.
Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any reports please let us know how you went.
