Report 21/9/17

Post by subeditor » Thu Sep 21, 2017 3:00 pm

It’s been great to see all our Houseboats out on the water having fun this week for school holidays. Even with a bit of wind around we have some great spots to hide out of the breeze and catch a feed of fish. Let’s see what been biting on the Gold Coast.
Matt and Connie enjoyed their houseboat holiday on Seaview last week spending time fishing around tiger mullet channel. They had their own boat and did some trolling around the Pin scoring a few nice Flathead and a Flounder pictured in this week’s report, thanks for sharing your photos.

It’s great to see the local kids dropping into the tackle shop and getting rigged up to throw soft plastics around the Coomera River. So far we’ve had reports of a few Mangrove Jack and Trevally starting to show up, as the weather warms up putting in the time casting at the rock walls, bridges and pontoons will pay off with some good fish on offer.

Some nice Whiting have been caught lately, this is a great sign as we lead up to Summer. Customers have found some nice fish in the Coomera River, Pimpama River, Logan River, Canaipa Passage, Jacobs Well, Bedrooms, Paradise Point and the Nerang River all worth a look. Worms or Yabbies are the best bait, I recommend a nice long fluro carbon 6lb trace, size 6 short bait holder hook and a 4 ball sinker as the standard rig.

Bream have been a target for land based fisho’s this week taking the kids for a look. We have some good land based spots to get the kids started, I like Coomera River next to our shop off the park, Paradise Point, Runaway Bay canal mouths and bridges, Mouth of Biggera Creek, Grand Hotel Jetty, Broadwater Parklands, Southport Bridge and Nerang River Parks. Just a simple running sinker rig and a prawn will do the trick.

Houseboat customers have scored a good feed of Mud Crabs this week, if we get a bit of rain soon that would help to stir them up. The new moon has brought with it some big tides flushing out a few crabs from the creeks. The Coomera river North Arm, The Never Fail Islands, Tipplers Passage, Brown Island, Jacobs Well, Tiger Mullet Channel, Cabbage Tree Point and the Logan River are worth setting the pots if you’re going for a fish.

Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any reports please let us know how you went.

Seabreeze is a great website to access a local forecast http://www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/

At the time of writing my report it looks like the Northerly winds are coming back for the weekend. Friday we will see moderate Northerly winds which will then increase to strong over Saturday and Sunday with the swell offshore also increasing. Just look for a spot to fish protected from the north direction. Make sure you have the most up to date forecast before heading out on the water.
If you have any great catches to report or fishing photos please email them to brett@coomerahouseboats.com.au

Good luck with the Fishing. Brett
