Report 4/4/19

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Apr 05, 2019 10:11 am

There has been a lot of excitement over the last week with anglers reporting that long tail tuna have turned up around our shores.

Some of these fish have been taken from the headlands and rock platforms using stick baits and large metal lures but a lot of time and effort is needed to try and score one of these magnificent fish.

The fish seem to be patrolling up and down the coast along the rocks chasing baitfish and if you are lucky enough to be there when they pass there is always a chance of taking a fish.

There have been some other reports that a few fish have been taken inside the harbour and along some of our inshore reefs.

Out wide I have reported a lack of marlin but recently some anglers have been lucky enough to pick up a few striped marlin inside browns while trolling skirted lures.

Hopefully this will improve in the coming weeks and we see a few game fish caught.

There has also been a few very good mahi mahi taken as can be seen on the cover picture of a beautiful fish that was taken by a few mates while out fishing on a recent charter.

Inside the harbour there is still a lot of bait with slimey mackerel yellowtail and squid in good numbers.

A lot of kingfish have been holding around old mans hat over the last week and has been getting a lot of attention with boats queuing up to get in on the action along with anglers working baits from the shore.

Although there are still a lot of small fish being hooked the big ones are never far away.

On the beaches the reports are still good if you are after a mulloway with Narrabeen and long reef being some of the more successful ones to try.
Sharks and stingrays are a common catch while fishing into the night and maybe a tailor or two.

Narrabeen lake is fishing well with bream whiting and flathead being taken and in front of the caravan park there are a few anglers picking up some luderick on the incoming tide.
