Report 1/10/15

Post by Nicole Penfold » Thu Oct 01, 2015 4:07 pm

It looks like spring has finally sprung this week with some terrific weekend weather expected and some warm water temps to bring the fish out on the chew, & if the earlier reports are anything to go by the fishing will be red hot.

Simon Chen fished with captain Mike Bamforth aboard Oceanhunter Sportsfishing early this week and landed a 1.35metre kingfish on 80lb while slow drifting live slimey mackeral out at the 12 mile reef. It’s still early season for the kings and once the warmer northerly breezes arrive so will the fish and in good numbers.

It's not just the offshore reefs that are holding good numbers of feeding fish -- our upper reaches are also worthy locations to wet a line. Jim Matthews and Dave Lyner have been throwing soft plastics down at Roseville off the break wall catching some great flathead and bream. Some of the flatties have been up to 79cm with the bream up to 40cm. Gulp 4" minnows and Squidgy 100mm Whipbaits have been very successful lures for these trips. The better times have been sunset and sunrise with the guys moving all the way along the wall during each trip.
