Report 10/3/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Sun Mar 13, 2016 5:17 pm

Some serious water colour and temperature changes have occurred this week particularly offshore and in turn has slowed the small marlin bite right down but plenty of fish are on the chew closer to home with our in shore reefs and estuaries holding good fish.

Brad Verkerk & Anthony Ball had a good session on the mulloway fishing in 30 meters of water, the guys were using butterflied yellowtail fillets for bait while fishing on the bottom. Both anglers landed good fish over a metre in length while fishing in the slow northerly heading current.

Our estuaries are holding patches of Watsons Leaping Bonito at the moment with quite a few anglers reporting captures during the week, Rob Haslam & Bruce Newling landed a few of these speedsters using soft plastic and metal lures. This species often frequent sand flats and drop offs while herding baitfish up in the shallows, small metal lures are a favourite choice for casting at them and a quick retrieve is often successful.

The beaches have been providing a few species this week with bream, tarwhine and flathead being the pick, preferred times are in the darker hours before sunup and just after sundown. Dee Why, Manly and Narrabeen beaches have been very good locations to wet a line.
