Report 7/4/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Apr 08, 2016 3:03 pm

The hottest April day on record for Sydney this week still has conditions favourable to wet a line and the fishing has been almost as hot as the weather.

The inshore bite continues with some good snapper and kingfish captures during the week, Dee Why, Long Reef and Manly have all been successful locations just off the coast, Dane Kiggins slow drifted in 21 metres landing snapper to 3.6kgs off the bottom while the kings were taking unweighted squid strips half way down.

Dee Why beach is holding schools of whiting as young Ruby Merrett found out fishing with her dad Jimmy, Ruby used king worms for bait and landed whiting up to 35cm on her favourite rod, great job Miss.

The harbour is a little up and down with water temps but some surface schools are still visible and fishing these schools will put you in the zone for tailor, salmon, kings & trevally. Casting metal lures into the school is quite a popular method using a quick retrieve as is drifting unweighted baits of pilchard and squid. Attempting to keep a little distance from a school of surface feeders will help keep them on the surface allowing you to see where they are heading as these guys can sometimes spook easily. Good luck wetting a line this weekend.
