Report 29/4/16

After the terrific amberjack caught in Pittwater last week another outstanding catch has come to light during the week and this time from inside the harbour, Kevin Harbord was fishing from a rock platform chasing kingfish when his live yellowtail bait was taken and tore off at a rapid speed peeling nearly 100 meters of line. Thinking it was a solid kingfish it had soon become aware that it was a Northern Bluefin tuna or longtail as we fisherman call them, once landed it was celebrations all round, catching one of these fish in Sydney Harbour really does indicate exactly how healthy our estuary water really is. These fish are often chased by land based fisho’s at Port Stephens and Jervis Bay as Sydney rarely frequents these visitors, what a terrific capture well done Kevin.

The beaches have been holding some great fish of late with land based charter fisherman Alex Bellissimo reporting his clients have been exceptionally successful landing plenty of whiting, bream and flathead. Narrabeen, Collaroy, Dee Why and Manly have been selective venues for this sort of action with King Worms and squid being ever reliable baits. The wind looks like it may stay down this weekend so good luck and great fishing.
