Report 3/6/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Jun 03, 2016 4:30 pm

Being blessed by some big seas during the week has really stirred things up on the fishing front with some good reports and decent hauls being had by anglers fishing offshore and land based alike. Long Reef has been alive with fish as too is the harbour and Pittwater.

Staff member Zane Levett had a good session with his dad fishing for teraglin and snapper on the local reefs, live and strip baits lightly weighted on the bottom in 30 metres ensured action a plenty on this trip. Big schools of slimey mackerel have also been sighted just offshore.

The harbour clarity is great even after our recent rains and water temps are still high, trevally, kingfish and squid are all being taken in the shallows with some mulloway captures also coming from the deeper waters. Drifting for flathead is still a popular method for chasing a feed with Middle Head and Grotto Point being suitable locations.

Schooling salmon are moving into the beaches now and are certainly worth casting a metal lure at once sighted, once the sun goes down fishing a little closer to the rocks with a suspended pilchard under a float might nab you a couple of greenback tailor for the smoker.
