PORT WELSHPOOL
Hello again everyone. Alot has happened over the past month and mainly, Allways Angling has moved shops and we are now located at 29 Church St. All our other details are the same, phone numbers, emails , website etc... for this reason i have obviously been extremely busy with the move so haven't been able to get a report out since we moved so obviously there is a lot to catch up on.
For starters, inside has been fantastic to fish. The whiting are amazing...without a doubt the best season in my memory. Th fish are massive. there's a lot of fish at 1kg now and we have seen thumping big whiting over 50cm caught and the average is 43cm. The Lewis, Toora, Middle and Bennison all producing the goods with squid and pippis for bait. There's a heap of big snapper that have just come back on the chew inside in the past week. They are up to 6kg and there's a tonne of pinkies all through the system from 30cm to 50cm. Prime locations are the entrance between buoy 2 and 6, the Toora, top of the Franklin, and the Bennison channels. There's still king fish in the Lewis channel but are unpredictable on when to catch. They always seem to be taking oft plastics and large ones at that.
Offshore has been great when the weather allows it. There's a heap of kingies out at the islands. The ones feeding on the surface are very hard to catch, but any schools down deep are being kinder and are fairly easy to catch on knife jigs between 150g and 200g. If you are struggling to find the schools of kings, juts troll small skirted lures around until you find them, then drop the jigs down. On the reefs, there are heaps of pinkies from 30cm to 50cm and pilchards or fresh baits caught out there such as snook, couta or slimy mackerel are working great. Use your flasher rigs such as snapper snatchers for the perfect rig. There some hug gummies of around 20kg out there as well in around the 20 meter line that can be caught drifting or at anchor if you have a mark. The exciting news has been all the Bluefin Tuna around the coast that have extended to south of the prom so over the next few months it will be well worth trolling out wide for a tuna.
