Friday 19/5/17

At Welshpool this week the water temps dropped to around 12.5 degrees, so we're getting more into that winter fishing now.

From the jetties there are yakkas, trevally and a few mullet. In the inlet there are school flathead, with a few moderate ones to 40cm.

The offshore fishing is better. There are good gums to around 15kg, and heaps of good flathead t0 55cm out wide.

Inside Port Albert there still a few whiting. Numbers are down but they're big, with some getting well over 40cm. There are also plenty of big garfish.

At Manns and McLoughlins there are some big salmon, with a few over 50cm.

In the surf there are salmon of all sizes, up to around 60cm. There are still a few gummies getting caught at night, and the odd elephantfish as well.

Looking at the Gippsland Lakes, there are bream in the Nicholson and big bream in the straits.

In the freshwater, the trout are going really well, with plenty being caught at Blue Rock on trolled Tassie Devils. The local streams are fishing well too, with plenty of browns up to 35cm being caught on spinners and flies.
