Bass Straight
After hearing about record sized Southern Bluefin tuna on their door step Tim King along with Andrew Hopper decided it was time for them to get amongst the action. Heading out of Queenscliff Saturday morning the guys started trolling a spread of lures South South East of Port Phillip Heads in 70 meters of water. Mid-morning Tim’s rod sprang to life, screaming off line and after an extended fight the team boated a Southern Bluefin Tuna of 119kg. There were plenty of anglers out on Bass Straight over the weekend all searching for trophy tuna and although still present they are proving hard to tempt. Apollo Bay last week was still the number one destination for barrel tuna with multiple fish taken each day from waters around Long Reef.
Inside the bay Queenscliff has seen an incredible run of Southern Calamari with the Bight producing the best squid. Large jigs fished in the deeper water took the better numbers of squid and those going to the effort to be on the water early have achieved the best results. Just around the corner the mouth of Swan Bay has also given up squid although the size is down, bag limit captures are not too difficult.

Clifton Springs
Snapper continue to dominate reports from Clifton Springs with numerous fish being taken from the Point Richards channel over the weekend. Bait anglers faired the best this past week with fresh squid or pilchards doing the trick. Once again making the most of your sounder and marking fish before you anchor will see your chances increase.

Barwon Estuary
The Barwon Estuary held large numbers of smaller model Australian Salmon with those fishing the sheep wash section encountering the better numbers. As has been the case for the past few months the odd mulloway has been taken by those prepared to source fresh or live bait.

Surf Coast
Down the coast anglers had no troubles in banking Australian Salmon to 2kg spinning luresfrom the rock platforms and beaches surrounding Lorne. The most effective lure recently has been the Sea Iron Pelecus. Also down the surf coast the numerous small estuary’s fished well for bream which proved a back backup plan while waiting for the Salmon to come on the bite.

Barwon River
The freshwater section of the river around Queenspark has started to produce better numbers of redfin with small hardbody lures doing the job. Just remember to keep moving until a school of fish is located.

Purrumbete / Bullen Merri & Elyngamite
Down the freshwater district Kevin Hunter and ANSA guys fished the crater lakes Purrumbete, Bullen Merri and Elyngamite this past weekend. They managed Brown Trout, Chinook & Atlantic from a mixture of tactics such as trolling and bait fishing with mudeye suspended under a float. The Chinook Salmon average 1.9kg with Tyler Sparks boating the biggest at 2.6kg. Darren Dyson boated the best Atlantic Salmon of 2.547kg and Frank Naylor took the largest Brown trout of 2.596kg from Elyngamite. Ken Worland was also present at Lake Bullen Merri last Monday morning fishing power bait from the bank, Ken boated 3 Chinook salmon to 800grams.
Lake Toolondo
Eric Box recently travelled back to Lake Toolondo in the states north west. Fishing mudeye under a float Eric boated 12 trout a 3 day period, releasing most to fight another day. Eric’s largest trout was a brown weighing in at 3.03kg.
