Corio Bay
Corio Bay once again hosted some excellent snapper fishing. Matthew Kirby along with his father Alistair ventured out onto Corio Bay recently where the pair had an exceptional session boating two trophy snapper of 10.45kg & 10kg. Other anglers found plenty of smaller models to 45cm casting soft plastics amongst the western beach moorings.

Bellarine Peninsula
Squid anglers had little difficulty boating bag limit captures from Clifton Springs right around to the mouth of Swan Bay. The run in tide was more productive from all reports with size 3 jigs working the best. Snapper were boated by the odd angler fishing along the Point Richards channel but did prove finicky probably due to the water still being on the cool side.

Tackleworld Geelong’s Adam Van Der Lugt was at it again this time down the Bellarine Peninsular. Casting soft plastics Adam’s offering was completely engulfed by a beasty bream of 48cm that on light tackle put him through his paces.

Barwon Estuary
Inside the Barwon Estuary the lower reaches are surprisingly productive considering the recent rain. Mullet, Australian Salmon and even Tailor found their way into angler bags. Fishing the run in tide bellow the Ocean Grove boat ramp is best with baits such as pippie and prawn working a treat.

Portland
Over the past few months anglers have set out on the Southern Ocean chasing the elusive barrel tuna. Mark Stewart ventured out from Portland where trolling skirted lures Mark crossed paths with a Southern Bluefin Tuna of 100.40kg that took 3 hours to subdue.

Lake Purrumbete
Freshwater anglers kept their attention on Purrumbete with Brown trout to over 5.5kg devouring hard body lures cast or trolled at first & last light along the east bank. Anglers have noted that of an evening casting and trolling around schools of minnow rippling on the surface has been the trick to success.

South West Vic
Sunday morning Daniel Baden and I spent a few hours fishing the smaller streams around Beech Forest where we were able to land numerous wild brown trout to 30cm in length. Shallow hard body lures and spinners were ideal.

Next Week
Next week anglers looking to wet line remain persistent off Clifton Springs for snapper along the Point Richards channel. Squid and whiting should be prevalent along the whole of the Bellarine Peninsular in 3 6 meters of water. The Barwon Estuary is a perfect option for the kids this school holidays along with St Augustine’s in Waurn Ponds for rainbow trout.
