Clifton Springs
Last week’s warmer weather spurred anglers to set out in search of a snapper or two. Clifton Springs was the pick of locations. Motoring over to the start of the Point Richards channel anglers patient enough boated snapper to 7kg using lightly weighted baits on a tide change. Of note those fishing the edge of the point Richards channel also boated excellent numbers of Silver Whiting which made for some of the best snapper bait you could ask for. When the wind played havoc out wide anglers sought shelter around the Curlewis Bank and tangled with some impressive King George Whiting & Squid.

Swan Bay
Swan Bay channel showed no signs of slowing down this week. Sam Pitman spent a few hours casting soft plastics along the channel edges where he had little difficulty in boating salmon to 2kg. When the water clarity cleared out the front of Swan Bay squid made themselves know to anglers with bag limit captures common.

Back inside the Queenscliff Harbour Trelly’s Tackleworld Geelong’s Adam Van Der Lugt and Peri Stravropoulos braved almost gale force winds last week perseverance paid off as the guys were successful in landing Silver trevally to 40cm using gulp nemies 4”. They also made mention that small Australian Salmon plagued there soft plastics.

Ocean Grove / Barwon Heads
Early Saturday morning Jason Flynn & Daniel Quince lunched out of Ocean Grove boat ramp and headed out through the river mouth. After having no luck in 23 meters of water the guys made a move out to 40 meters and begun burlying. The next 30 minutes proved red hot for Jason and Daniel with 3 snapper up to 78cm in length landing in the boat along with a 5kg gummy which the guys released.

Barwon Estuary
The Barwon Estuary attracted anglers chasing bream with those fishing the run in tide using live bait banking fish to 40cm. Small Australian Salmon kept anglers busy down the entrance of the system with pippie being devoured in quick time.

Surf Coast
Surf anglers again enjoyed success fishing the beaches along the surf coast with Australian Salmon a common capture keen anglers fishing into the night with bait encountered Gummy Shark to 10kg.

Victorian West Coast
The estuary systems dotted along the Victorian West Coast are all starting to produce excellent numbers of bream and estuary perch for those prepared to cast a lure around the lower reaches of most systems.

Freshwater fisho’s crossed paths some well-conditioned wild brown trout fishing throughout the Otway’s casting small shallow diving hard body lures like Cranka Minnows. Most Otway stream are in excellent condition at present.

Barwon River
Closer to home the Barwon River gave up large carp to 6kg for keen anglers fishing corn on a running sinker rig. The best section of river seems to be from Breakwater through to Moorabool St Bridge.

Lake Eildon
Heading North Lake Eildon was the go to location for those seeking Cod and Yellowbelly. Trolling and casting lures along steep rocky points worked a treat. As a by catch some impressive Brown Trout to over 2kg have been boated on lures intended for Cod and Yellowbelly.

Next Week
Next Week anglers looking to wet a line consider the Queenscliff Harbour for Trevally and Pinkies as the harbour is fishable most of the time. Snapper anglers have a look at the spoil ground both in the Inner and Outer Harbour. If the weather allows now’s the time to start looking out off Ocean Grove / Barwon Heads for a snapper or gummy and keep your eye’s peeled for a bust up of Salmon & Kingfish.
