Clifton Springs
Clifton Springs really has been the go to location for those seeking a mixed bag over the past week with snapper, gummy shark, whiting, flathead and squid all making their way into angler bags. Whiting were boated over the Curlewis Bank in 5 to 6 meters of water with pippie the most desired bait. Snapper kept anglers fishing near the Alcoa area busy with the average size 3 to 5kg. Anglers fishing the shallow areas of Clifton Springs have taken some well-conditioned flathead with soft plastics a great tactic in the shallow water.

Indented Heads
Moving around to Indented Heads and Barry Wood was at it again Saturday morning chasing flathead in the deeper water. Using blue bait Barry was able to land an impressive bag of flathead with fish reaching the high 40cm mark. The reef sections of Indented Heads have also been fantastic for squid with bag limit captures possible at times.

St Leonards
St Leonards was whiting central on the Bellarine once again. Sunday morning Trellys Geelong's Chris Pitman made a day break start out from St Leonards and anchored up in 6 meters of water out from the yacht club. After an hour or so he managed a dozen whiting to 40cm before the bite slowed. Pippie was the most effective bait rigged on a running sinker rig.

Queenscliff
Over at Queenscliff, squid kept anglers busy in the bight where drifting with large 3.5 and 4 size artificial jigs worked well. Kingfish were by far the main attraction with the Rip showing no signs of slowing down. Anglers drifting in the tide and jigging with 150gram jigs boated Kingfish to 8kg along with the odd fish taken on the troll. What caught a lot of attention this week was the occasional Bluefin Tuna still hanging around on the Rip and the Bend. Just remember when boating near the Rip take care and avoid large ships.

Ocean Grove / Barwon Heads
Offshore from Ocean Grove / Barwon Heads anglers also encountered Kingfish by jigging around schools of bait marked on the sounder with kingfish to 70cm taken. Drifting in 40 meters of water was a great way to bag a feed of tiger flathead.

Portland
Down the West coast, Portland was a hot spot for Bluefin Tuna. Dawn Trewin boated tuna to 12kg out from Portland. Renae and Sinan ventured out from Portland where the guys boated numerous tuna on williamson skirts.

Lake Purrumbete

On the freshwater front Lake Purrumbete down the western district produced fantastic numbers of redfin along with the odd rainbow trout. Anglers noted that once schools of redfin were marked sending ice jigs down worked a treat.

Barwon River
The Barwon River around Geelong is still seeing numbers of redfin to 35cm on small hard body lures such as Atomic Hard in Col 017.

Lake Eildon
Lake Eildon was a hot location for anglers chasing Murray Cod. Trolling hard body along the steep banks was productive for cod to 65cm in length.

Shepparton Region
Big news in the Shepparton area with a 1.2m Cod caught in the Goulburn River within walking distance of the township of Mooroopna on a surface lure purchased at our Trellys Shepparton Store by Mark Jenkins. Plenty of other fish caught in the Goulburn between Arcadia and Undera with Pro Staffer Graeme catching Cod to 61cm and Yellowbelly around 35cm to 40cm at Arcadia off the bank on worms, shrimp and yabbies. Kyle Hippisley and Pro Staffer Justin have been influenced by our new staff member Pip Clement (Pippy Monster Cod Flies), and have been trying there luck at Fly fishing for Cod, they have been fishing the Broken River and have had great success catching small Cod on nearly every cast. Still a fare bit of surface action available in the Broken River as well, with Cod Wallopers and 120mm Kooabung Cod Crackers working well. Murchison to Toolamba still very consistent with plenty of Yellowbelly 35cm to 52cm on offer and small to medium Cod on both Lures and bait. Best baits are scrubworms, yabbies, shrimp and cheese and best lures seem to be the Old Mate colour 9 and 13, size 1 Stumpjumper colour 25 and 7 as well as Bassman Codman Series in purple colours and TW1.

Main Eastern Channel between Kialla and Invergorden fishing well, with Cod to 80cm, mainly fish around 55cm to 65cm and 35cm to 54cm Yellowbelly on worms, shrimp and cheese, Pirate Spinnerbaits also working well. Few Trout being caught in the Shepparton Lake on powerbait and Paul Nicel Pimples.

Redfin and Yellowbelly at Graigmuir Lake in Mooroopna on the bite too.

Waranga Basin
Still plenty of good sized Redfin being caught with Mario, as always, producing the goods catching over 100 fish in a session with 20 or 30 good sized fish amongst them. Trawling small deep diving hardbodies, finding the fish then bobbing yabbies and white ice jigs working best in the deeper water. Kane Baker was fishing the inlet Channel Murchison side of the Basin caught a ripper Cod, 80cm on a small yabbie and light 10lb gear intended for a Redfin. The 2 outlet channels still producing some good Yellowbelly on yabbies and worms as well as Jackal TN60’s TG Razor, and Spinnerbaits with the occasional 40+ Redfin, still plenty of tinny fish amongst them also. Local dams are producing XO sized Yabbies.

Kyabram Region

Greens Lake has been fishing well with good numbers of Redfin and Yellowbelly on yabbies and worms. Most Channels in the region are fishing well for Redfin, Yellowbelly and the occasional small Cod on yabbies, worms and lures such as size 2 and 3 Stumpjumpers and Spinnerbaits working well. Goulburn River around Undera fishing well again with a few Cod and Yellowbelly being caught. The Kayak guys fishing the Broken Creek at Nathalia catching plenty of 30cm to 40cm Yellowbelly on Jackal TN60’s. Campaspe River at Rochester has been consistent with Yellowbelly on Spinnerbaits and a few Cod on small surface lures such as Kingfisher Mantis.

Other Regions
Dave Mohi and Jamie Mahuika had a awesome session, catching 4 Cod and 2 Yellowbelly at Lake Nillachootie on Old Mates various colours. Frank Baldi was fishing Berri on Saturday, catching 30 Cod, with 11 over 55cm, 1 which hit the magical metre on a colour 9 Old Mate. The best lures where the Old Mate, counted for 7 and the 85mm Codger counted

Next Week
If you’re looking for options this coming week, keep St Leonards for whiting in mind with the area known as Bourke St worth a shot on the incoming tide. Kingfish in the Rip while the action is going hot is almost a must. Freshwater anglers make the drive to Purrumbete for large numbers of redfin. Goulburn River is worth a shot with monster cod on surface lures.
