Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Nov 13, 2015 3:35 pm

With a little over 2 weeks to go, anglers are stocking up on lures, spinnerbaits, new braid and leader in readiness for the cod opening. The Murray at Swan Hill has steadied and is at a good level, the Edward river is rising at Moulamein and all the other rivers and creeks are steady.

- Campers at the Murray/Wakool junction landed good size yellas last weekend on worms and shrimp.
- The Murray in the Wemen area produced yellas up to 52cm on yabbies and worms and there was a metre plus and a 97cm cod caught and released and another fish straightened out a hook when it went for a run.
- Mick from the Boundary Bend store reports that good size yellas have been caught on scrubworms and lures, fishing around the snags and in the deeper water.
- The bottom end of the Wakool river is producing yellas to 45cm on shrimp and scrubbies.
- Good size yellas to 50cm are being picked up on a rising Edward river on most baits and several large cod have also been landed and released.
- The Merran Creek is also producing large yellas on yabbies.
- The Murrumbidgee river above the weir at Balranald is producing large numbers of yellas, with some around the 50cm mark. One group landed 43 in one outing, with most of the fish taking yabbies, shrimp and worms and some are taking small lures.
- Locally the Murray is producing some nice fish with one angler fishing in 4 foot of water at the Floodway picked up a 60, 2 x 57 and a 55cm yella on crushed yabbies.Another bloke fishing near Brooks Lane landed 7 cod up to 60cm using chicken last Saturday and two mates staying at the Pental Island caravan park picked up a couple of yellas to 42cm on A1 worms and a 43cm cod.

I will have a new batch of Gidgee Barcoos, JD/Eddy, Muldoon, Kuttafurra, AC's and the new 170mm Koolabung Codzilla arriving within the next two weeks-just in time for the opening. For the bait fishermen I will have plenty of bardi grubs, yabbies and worms in stock for the opening-you can pre-order if you want to!

The winning ticket for the two entries to the Cod Classic will be drawn on Monday to give the winner time to make accommodation/camping arrangements.
